Need to change computer name in a specific way
Hey guys
I have read many articles on changing computer names but none really help us...
I need a K2000 script as such that allows me to change the computer name in a specific way as a postinstalation task or would it be better as a preinstallation task..?
We want the following...
For a laptop we want the letter L then the serial number of the laptop
For a desktop we want the letter D then the serial number of the desktop
For a tablet we want TAB the the serial number of the tablet
Can anyone assist please?

you can do this with wsname

be something like wsname /N:$CHASSIS-$SERIALNUM
or create scripts for each type
wsname /N:D-$SERIALNUM
wsname /N:L-$SERIALNUM

Hi vjc,
Why not just use Get/Set Computer name? When you start a build it will prompt for what you want to call the computer and you just type it in and then the build completes as normal. Sure you have to type in the name manually but it's my preferred method.
