Kace Windows 10 Support

I know this has probably been asked a few times, but where is Kace at with Windows 10 support? Specifically patching. I have 1,000 Surface Pro 4's coming in January, followed by 500 Surface books shortly after that. I would like to deploy them with Windows 10 instead of using Windows 8.1. I'm trying to avoid maintaining multiple OSs. I've heard later this year on their site, but I'd like to know that's still on target.

  • My guess would be late Q1 2016 or Early Q2. - carminus 8 years ago
    • That's what I'm afraid of. I'll have to initially roll out these tablets with 8.1. Then basically turn right around, and reimage them to 10. - dugullett 8 years ago

An update (6.4.120261) was released today:  https://support.software.dell.com/k1000-systems-management-appliance/6.4

  • I saw that, and I installed it on one of my Kboxs. While it looks to have resolved some of my previous "bugs" in the release notes, I'm not seeing Windows 10 added to the patch subscription. Maybe I had too much turkey, and I'm overlooking something.

I'm wondering since it's worded "Patching – The K1000 patch engine requires an agent update in order to successfully detect patches on Windows 10 systems" will there be an agent update as well? - dugullett 8 years ago
    • Edit: It required a patch download to reflect Win10 and OS X 10.11. - jknox 8 years ago
      • I stand corrected. I was testing something else this afternoon, and I now have Windows 10 in my subscription settings. It's also showing on my patch schedules. I'm patching my test machines now. Looks to be working.

Could it be possible that it had to wait until after its first patch download from Kace/Lumension? It's at the top of the list. I would have seen that (at least I would have thought). - dugullett 8 years ago

I don't see patching listed in the resolved issue.

  • Yes. It's working for me now. It took about 30-40 minutes for the install, and of course a reboot. - dugullett 8 years ago

As you probably know, you can install the 6.4 agent on Windows 10 now with some limitations: https://support.software.dell.com/kb/156967

Support will for Windows 10 patching should be available with the release of the 6.4 SP1 update.  I don't think I've seen an ETA yet, but it appears to be close to delivery.  No guarantees, but I would imagine it will release before the end of 2015 or soon into 2016.

  • Yeah I've got everything working. I've been deploying software to my test machines, image is done, and GPOs are set. Just the patching is all I'm needing.

I thought about getting crazy and just deploying MS patches for a few months via command line. I'd just like to know an estimate. If it's June of 2016 I'd just like to know so that I can plan a little. - dugullett 8 years ago

You will NOT be waiting until June.  Both the K1 and K2 have service packs that are scheduled for this year which will provide official support for Win 10 as well as Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan.  I will qualify by saying "scheduled" because sometimes development hits a snag.  But that is what we are told so far, and what i have seen we are pretty close now.
