K2000 Imaging - Setting Computer Name from Asset Tag

Hi,

I'm trying to pull the Asset Tag out of the BIOS fo our Dell workstations when I deploy an image and I'm having problems with wsname. I see in the new version of the K2000 there is a Computer Name: Derive BIOS Asset Tag preinstall task and a Computer Name: Auto-Assign Hostname from Asset Tag post install task. I've put them in my deployment but the 1st one gets an error and the second runs fine. I'm assuming the first task will read the BIOS Asset Tag and the second task will us that information to set the computer name.

I've looked for documentation on these tasks but can't find any. Has anyone used these tasks before and/or have documentation on what they do and how to use it?

Thanks,

Brian

  • I ran the first script and it brings up a Dell Kace Window with an input for a computer name. I'm pretty sure the second one is not a custom script that we have done either. - brian.huels@uclg.on.ca 10 years ago

Those tasks are not part of the K2000 by default, which means someone at your location added it.

wsname /N:$ASSETTAG should get you what you want.
