I am new to this technology and job but I need to add a new device to the K1000 inventory in order to do patching/software deployment/etc.

I already kind of got the hang of software deployment and patching but I have no idea how to add new devices to the inventory (I was not there for the initial setup of the software).

I keep hearing talk of the KACE Agent? What is this and is it related at all? Do I have to download that to the new device in order for it to be added?

The agent is a small software package that gets installed on any computer you want to inventory.  You can download a copy of the installer by going to Settings › Provisioning › Update Agent Settings.  The .msi file in the .zip file will have your KACE SMA's name on the end of it, which the .msi uses to know where to communicate back to.  Just run that on a computer, and it will connect back to your KACE SMA.

If you're new to KACE, I'd suggest going to support.quest.com and reading/watching some of their free training options to learn more about the product.

I would recommend setting up deployment via GPO. Its easy and after its set, all you need to do is worry about connecting it to Domain.
