Disable Start up items?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question or if it is even possible as we have had our Kbox for just over a week and have not started formal training just yet but I am eager to get going. I have already installed the agents and the inventory is building.

My question is, how can I (if at all) disable startup programs globally? The latest Windows up seems to have installed Windows Messenger Live on our employees desktops and we need to disable that on all of them.

Thanks for any help.

Hey Chris,

Congratulations on your KBOX purchase.

I would use a script to either uninstall or disable Messenger. There is a built in Uninstaller Wizard under Configuration Policy in the scripts section.

As a 2nd option, when the software is inventoried, it should give you the uninstall string or at least the GUID to use with msiexec.

Hi Casey,

Thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly use it. However I would still be interested in learning how to disable (if possible) start up items because occasionally a user will get a virus in their start up and it will spread to other machines. I would love to be able to globally select that particular .exe so it would not start up. Another scenario is, some programs our users will use but they do not need them to bog down their login on start up.
