Using the KACE Configuration Policy to install the Ultra VNC Client in 5.4

The UVNC client wizard will install the viewer on systems that need to be accessed remotely via the Machine Action button in the K1000.

Start by going to the Scripting section and clicking the Configuration Policy tab. Then Click UltraVNC Wizard in the list

Make sure Install Viewer is selected, and configure your remaining settings as desired. For a silent install, make sure to leave the Mirror Driver option unchecked. Then click Save.

Once saved, the script will be found in the Scripts tab. Search for UltraVNC in the search box to quickly locate it.

Next, go to Settings>General Settings and scroll down to Machine Actions. Click Edit Mode and select the VNC remote option of your choice. In this example, we are using VNC Remote Control using HOST NAME

This will create a command line to the right of the dropdown menu.

Edit the path in the command line so that it has the explicit path to the viewer. It should be "C:\Program Files\ultravnc\vncviewer.exe" KACE_HOST_NAME

Click Save Actions. By default, the machine action will be named Action 1, but you can change it to whatever you wish.

Once you have run the script to install the viewer onto a target system, you can use the Action dropdown to run it from the main Inventory page, or from the Detail Item page for a given computer.

This will launch the viewer and allow you to input your password and log into the system.

K1000: Simple Scripted File Copy

Though there are many ways to do this including a file sync I see a lot of users wanting to use a bat file to do this and running into issues. Probably because of the familiarity with DOS commands and not scripting syntax, especially KScripting.

The simple script below will let you create a DOS syntax script tfor use with kace to copy a file.

Create a Online Shell Script

Attach a dependency and give the commands like below in the script text

A couple of notes here.

Because the kscript runs as local system you wont run into any permoissions caused by launching your own batch file.

We have simply attached the file to copy as a dependency (in this case AgentErr.png)

Using xcopy withthe path to the script (you can find this by attaching your dependency and saving the script) Find you script in the list you are returned to and hover over it. The link to the script shows the ID, it should aslo be visible inthe address bar like.

http://kboxURL/adminui/kbot.php?ID=106

The part after ID= will be the number you use in your script.

lastly /y says yes to make sure there is no user interaction required and the /D tells XCOPY that our destination is a directory.

K1000: Report of recent Amp Connection Loss

This report will give you a list of all Amp Agents who have lost connection in the last X minutes (Im using 60 here)

*************************************************
SELECT ASSET_HISTORY.NAME AS COMPUTER_NODE, ASSET_HISTORY.CHANGE_TYPE, ASSET_HISTORY.TIME AS DISCONNECT_TIME
FROM ASSET_HISTORY
LEFT JOIN MACHINE ON ASSET_HISTORY.NAME = MACHINE.NAME
WHERE ASSET_HISTORY.CHANGE_TYPE = 'Disconnection'
AND NOW() < DATE_ADD(ASSET_HISTORY.TIME, INTERVAL 60 MINUTE)
ORDER BY ASSET_HISTORY.TIME ASC
LIMIT 1000
*************************************************

You can change the timeframe to anything you want by changeing the interal number.

Below is the output.

**Note- I limited the ouput to 1000 records because the history can be quite large. I dont advise changing that unless you know what you are doing. Besides if you have more than 1000 agents that lost connection in the last hour you proabably shouldnt me running reports :)

K1000: Updating Agent Software

PROBLEM: Kace fails provisioning your client with the newest Agent budle

REASON: You cannot provision an already provisioned client.

RESOLUTION: You must use the upgrade feature of the KACE Agent.

*************************************************

First we need to make sure you have the latest agent version loaded on your appliance.

Go to K1000 Settings --> Server Maintenance --> Currently Downloaded Agent Bundle Version:
Check for the current version number.

If it doesnt then download and load the newest agent bundle at https://www.kace.com/support/Customer/downloads

Once this is verified then proceed to check the settings below:

Settings --> K1000 Agent --> Agent Updates from KACE

Make sure the boxes for
Enabled:
Update Broken Agents:
are both checked and then you will need to either check Deploy to all machines or deploy to certain labels.

This will automatically upgrade the agents as they check in.
