Disable the Check for Updates option in the Help menu.

delete or rename the following file:

 "c:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\share\registry\onlineupdate.xcd"

eg ren  "c:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\share\registry\onlineupdate.xcd" onlineupdate.bak

Restore the file to have option appear again.
