Win7 64 UAC settings (best practice) for Adminstudio Repackaging win7 base image
What is the best practice for UAC settings level on the baseline win7 vm image for running Adminstudio re-packager? I know its supposed to be the cleanest baseline image with win7 updates, hotfixes and IE version.
I was wondering if UAC should be off, on, etc?

Your repackager/sequencer should be a clean build that is similar but not the same as the corperate build.
example. almost the same as the corp build but manually built from dvd, never joined to the domain, same IE version and UAC settings. with updates. if your normally have office, add that too.
similar to Rileyz... I use a base DVD install of Win7... I disable updates and pretty much leave it untouched from the default manual installation...
I generally will add software on an as needed basis (like office mentioned by Riley).
I not only use this machine for captures, but also for general testing to discover dependencies, a baseline to test against if software is acting weird on our corporate image etc. - dandirk 9 years ago
thanks. I understand having a clean baseline, but my question is related to having the UAC user account control setting turned off or not, when doing a capture or snapshot.. and what is best practice with this? - indierox 9 years ago
I personally leave it default, our UAC policy is actually higher on our corp image (If I remember fight, lol point is rarely an issue I have had 1% maybe). The only problem I have run into was with apps that wouldn't install with UAC on at all. In those cases, created a snapshot of my VM with UAC disabled then capture the install.
The reason I really like having a default no update VM, is not only for capture but for troubleshooting to see if its an image or app issue. Most vendors test against default installations I believe.
Now if you are making a very specific capture snapshot/image, you could probably disable UAC, though I am not sure if redirection and other non-prompt UAC features would be effected causing issues on computers with UAC turned on. In the very few captures when I had to disable UAC to capture, I have not noticed anything yet. - dandirk 9 years ago
UAC should be the same as the corp build. so if its on in the corp build then turn it on in your repackaging machine. hope this helps. - rileyz 9 years ago
