The issue.

I want to repalce an old version of a file to a new version through msi. I am trying using upgrade option. But, the new msi is removing the old file along with the folder.
File location is "C:\Folder1\app.exe" so after upgradation the new msi is removing the "Folder1" as well and so the file is not getting replaced.
Is there any property which will make the msi to only replace the file and not the whole folder?

Hey DnMech,
I am not sure which upgrade you are using.Try to use the minor upgrade with the reinstallmode and reinstall property.
You can just specify the feature which you would like to change at Reinstall property.
Hope this helps.....

you have 2 easy options to do this

you can either set REINSTALLMODE=amus

or use companion files

this is all well documented in the sdk
