RightFax 8.7 and the #$&*@!! setup.ini

Ok, no surprise to anyone who has already experienced this, but I am having "issues" with the setup.ini not doing, well anything!

I've read all the posts on appdeploy as well as Captaris support, but none seem to actually solve my problem, although they are all related.

Here is the problem; I'm trying to edit the setup.ini to only install these 5 options:

RightFax Printer Driver
FaxUtil
Outlook Advanced Fax Extensions
MAPI Printer Driver
VIM Printer Driver

What I get is a package that only installs the FaxUtil and the Enterprise Fax Server - which I didn’t select!

I guess my problem is I don’t know what the syntax for the setup.ini should be; where do I put the AddLocal= etc, etc. If only there was a RightFax guru who could provide me with a sample setup.ini that would install the 5 components listed above (hint hint).

Wait, I figured it out. Maybe I missed something in the KB articles and the other threads started by frustrated RightFax admins, but hopefully I can pass along a little knowledge that will help the next poor sap: the CmdLine= statements have to go together, meaning the INSTALL_FAXUTL etc has to compliment your AddLocal=

Huh? Yeah, that’s and understatement!

Here is my setup.ini (sans serial number) for you all to enjoy:

[font="Courier New"]CmdLine=/qr SERIALNUM=XXXXXXXXX INSTALL_FAXUTIL=TRUE INSTALL_FAXCTRL=TRUE INSTALL_OUTLOOK=TRUE INSTALL_MAPIPRINTER=TRUE INSTALL_VIMPRINTER=TRUE /l*v "%TEMP%\RightFax Product Suite.log" INSTALLLEVEL=1 RFSERVERNAME=SCAD1RFAX01 AddLocal=ALL

In my case I wanted to install the RightFax client with these 5 options ONLY:

RightFax Printer Driver
FaxUtil
Outlook Advanced Fax Extensions
MAPI Printer Driver
VIM Printer Driver

So I had to enter a line for each component INSTALL_MAPIPRINTER=TRUE for instance will install the MAPI Printer Driver, which meant I needed to also include an AddLocal=MAPIPrinter in the CmdLine as well. Since I wanted BOTH the MAPI Printer and the VIM Printer, my AddLocal=ALL. If you just want one of those two, you just tell it which one AddLocal=MAPIPrinter or AddLocal=VIMPrinter.

Check out Captaris's website for what each INSTALL_XXX and AddLocal=XXX should look like. Here are the KB Articles I referenced:

Hi Blake,

does the installation of your application has an option to select or deselect the RightFax Printer Driver, FaxUtil, Outlook Advanced Fax Extensions, MAPI Printer Driver, and VIM Printer Driver? If there is, better use a response file to replace your setup.ini file.

Here is a command line to be set on run command on a clean pc.

Setup.exe -r (to make a setup.iss)

Upon installation just select or deselect all the neccessary features you wanted to install on your machine. After finishing the installation, locate the setup.iss produced upon installation on windows folder.

To use this setup.iss, just put it on where the setup.exe is located and use this command line

Setup.exe /s for silent installation. ( All changes you made upon making setup.iss will be set on this silent installation )

cheers,

knight

Thanks knight for your response.

Although the setup.exe -r did bring up a different set of install options, it didnt create a setup.iss anywhere on the system. I do have the ability in AdminStudio 7 to create a response form, but it hasnt done the trick either.

Based on other posts about RightFax, the solution lies in the setup.ini - but I havent had any luck either way.
