Network Client Install Using Windows Installer

Hi All,

I am repackaging NetManage's ViewNow software. I only use two components of this software; the Telnet application and the NFS client. The NFS Client installs a Network Client which consists of a driver file (idrive.sys) and a service "helper" (idr3hlpr.exe). I also have the proper .INF file and also a notify dll.

My question is how do I install this using Windows Installer? Is it possible? The driver is not signed.

I've successfully repackaged the software and it installs fine on the image that I used to repackage but if I install it on a syspreped image I am unable to access the properties of the Local Area Connection as its not shown under Network Connections (ncpa.cpl). However, I am able to map and access NFS drives.

Should I use a custom action to install? How do I do this? I've downloaded and tried the examples on this site but I'm not trying to install a device driver only a network client. Is there a difference? My knowledge of customs actions is limited also is my knowloedge of VBScript etc.

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

After some research its now clear to me that I need to write a custom action that installs the above driver, which is a File System Driver, as there is no native support in Windows Installer.

If anyone has any experience of writing custom actions for installing File System Drivers please let me know. I've searched the net and ordered a copy of the DDK from Microsoft and will post back any information, code samples, etc. if I manage to complete the task!

Thanks.
