MSI Shortcut Rename

Hello,

I have an MSI that I already have installing with no problems using a silent install switch, as well as a switch to change the target directory that it installs to. However, I need to have the shortcut that it places on the desktop renamed to something else. Is there any way to do this without having to completely repackage the app using adminstudio etc?

Thanks,

Hi ljpatti

You can do this by using Installsheild You don't have to completely repackage it just go o the shortcut tab you will see a Desktop Icon and create the shortcut you desire pointing it to the exe file.

It would be much quicker to load the MSI into Orca/InstEdit and change the shortcut's entry in the 'Name' column of the 'Shortcut' table. However, if this is a vendor-supplied MSI, change the name in a transform and apply that to the MSI at deployment time. Vendors get twitchy about edited versions of their ouevres...
