I have way too many users entering their whole ticket text in the subject line of a ticket. How can I limit the amount of data that field will allow?

I have tried to change the width of the field in Configuration - Queues -  Queue - Ticket list layout - Title from 50 to 20 but I can still put more than even 50 characters in that field.

  • I don't believe there is a way to do this as it is a text field and coded in the back. The layout only changes the amount of visible space you see in the column layout, not the size of data that can go into it. I would adjust the field header to be like

    Title (please enter details in comment box, not in title box)

    or something to that affect and guide them.

Unfortunately, this type of "field validation" is only possible with custom ticket rules (i.e. SQL coding). As a workaround, I would suggest making "Summary" a required field, so a user cannot submit the ticket until entering both a title and a summary.
