If your colleague is creating packages quickly, he is either an experienced packager who is just good at his job, or he has a load of project files for different product suites, and is able to quickly adapt them for new versions of the apps.

In either case you are basically gonna have to talk to him to get info. Maybe you could send him some candy?

EDIT: I did assume you actually have access to some decent MSI authoring tool like InstallShield or Wise, right?

Any fool can produce MSIs quickly: whether they're robust or not is another question. Do you have a QA process there? Even peer-to-peer QA i.e. where Packager A reviews Packager B's MSIs and vice-versa?

I would suggest to create a template file in case he is using Wise or Installsheild or any other tool for capturing apps. For transforms he must create a sample MSI just to quickly copy & paste standards properties, CAs, etc.

I am completely in agreement with Ian creating packages quickly churning out packages is not the question but what happens to the quality.
