Windows 7 - Scripted vs. Image

I finished my KBOX training last week and the Windows 7 image we built doesn't work. I would like to build a "default" profile that is used for all profiles, but when I did a little reading it appears MS has abandoned this method of creating images.

I don't know if I should contact KACE to ask for some advice. The trainer was supposed to get back to me, but I haven't heard a word. I am wondering what method of deploying Windows 7 is better SCRIPTED vs. IMAGE? I have also been reading on some people using MS GPO Preferences to set the users environment.

Basically we captured the image, but when completed we created a script that tries to over-write the default profile (doesn't do a thing). It also re-sets the local admin account password for some reason. Luckily I had created 2 local admin accounts, so I can go in with the one and re-set the password, but known of the default profile settings are saved (i.e. IE 8 settings).

Thank you

ZT

Does KACE have any "step-by-step" guides of best practices on how to create/capture a Windows 7 image. The Jumpstart training is a nice touch, but you are really cramming a ton of information in a 4 hour window for everything this appliance can do.

By the end of my training I was left with an image that doesn't work, and never heard back from the trainer when he said he would cal?!?

Imaging with Win 7 is drastically different from XP. We used this blog (http://blog.brianleejackson.com/sysprep-a-windows-7-machine-%E2%80%93-start-to-finish-v2) to get most of our information. It does show you how to make a default profile.

  • The site above no longer exists, however I contacted Brian Lee Jackson, and he pointed me to the following site: http://theitbros.com/sysprep-a-windows-7-machine-start-to-finish-v2/. Hope it helps. - credituniontech 10 years ago
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
