Unclear on how Label Attribute field works when importing users

I'm having some trouble wrapping my head around what exactly the "Label Attribute" is and if there's even value in us using it with our implementation.

Currently I have a few LDAP user labels, which are associated with their respective manual labels, which I've of course restricted to users. My LDAP queries all work as expected and my labels are populated with the specific users I want based on my queries. I leave the Label Attribute field blank here, and I also leave it blank on my night user import query as well. I've been reading the documentation I've found Label Attributes, and I still don't quite understand exactly what this field does and whether we have any use for it.

Can someone dumb it down a bit for me?

Basically the Label Attribute field on the LDAP Scheduled import will look up any groups that you have in your AD and create them as LDAP labels on your SMA when you run the import.

If you are an organisation that manages everything from AD then mirroring the structure in your SMA would work for you.

If however you don't and you don't want your label view to be full up of pointless, empty LDAP labels then before you run your import you will need to remove the "memberof" text from the Label Attribute box so that no new labels are created.
