Software Tag Files and Vendor MSI

We would like to include Software Tag files (simple text files) with our software packages that will make it easier for our desktop management system to track software licenses. These are easy with snapshots or repackaging with AdminStudio 9 (which we are have). However, with vendor provided MSI's,what is the best way to do this? We could use a batch file to distribute and install the vendor MSI and Software Tag file, but if the software is manually uninstalled from the local workstation, there is no garantee that the technician will remember to also delete the Software Tag files.

I am new to repackaging MSI's with AdminStudio, but I gather that it is bad practice to repackage a vendor MSI because it changes the GUID. Any suggestions on how I can include these Software Tag files with vendor MSI's?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Easy peasy. Just create a transform (MST) and include the file you need. Run your installation as msiexec.exe TRANSFORMS=whatever.mst /i whatever.msi and you're done!

Sounds great! Is it best to create or edit the .mst in AdminStudio? For example, we created a custom .mst for Acrobat Pro 9 using Adobe's deployment tool. This was really easy to do, but there weren't any options in their tool to add files. I suppose AdminStudio could handle this for us?

Thanks for the quick response,
Dan

I suppose AdminStudio could handle this for us? It could indeed. Use the 'Tuner' tool.
