Quick Play 7.6

Hello Folks I am trying to sequence the Quick Play 7.6 and all my trial gone invain. Hoping some could have done asking for some suggesstions. Here's the issue.

During the sequencing of application it does not capture the *.qtp which is under user profile\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\quicktime.qtp.

I even tried opening the file and saving the file but still it doesn't help.
I even tried to open the package as a upgrade resequence the application seeting as User Data but even then no use.
I ahave also tried to upload the file during the sequence but still no success.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Regards,
Ram.

Hi Ram,

Have you tried removing the exclusion of the Local Settings\Application Data folder from the sequencer? To do so, go to the Options tab on the sequencer, select Exclusion Items and remove the appropriate setting.

Hope that helps,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Than you for your reply.

Your suggesstion did help me to get the user profile settings file stream in to the application but I havent seen any difference in the update preferences of the application.

I was told I could virtualise the 3 Apps per day on an average. But it seems it only applies to few apps. Not to all of them.

Every app that is hard to MSi is also hard to sequence. I think the only advantage is compatibility and conflict detection.

Hi Ram,

Glad it helped.. I'm not sure what you mean by "difference inthe update preference of the application" though? Do you mean the way the application updates itself (is that the preference that's stored in that file), or do you mean update from the App-V perspective?

I would be very reluctant to suggest that "3 apps a day" is an average - MANY apps can be done quickly but as you've pointed out, if something is tricky then it won't be that quick. I would say that it's still usually easer to sequence than MSI; if only because you don't have to worry so much about conflicts, uninstalls, dependencies etc in the same way, but you do still need to figure out how to make the app work! ; )

I would say that there are other advantages too - speed to deploy (due to less testing), reduced risk (due to removal/reduction of conflicts), ability to deploy/revoke without reboot, deploy non multi-user capable apps to terminal servers, multiple configurations/versions of apps running concurrently and active upgrade to name a few..

It's certainly not perfect but it's usually worth persevering with!

Good luck
Cheers,
Danny

Thanks Danny,

1. Yes that file holds the updatepreference settings.

2. Propbably I have ended up doing the tricky ones.

Ram.

Hi Ram,

If that file holds the preferences, but you're not seeing that process work correctly then I'd suggest looking at either Filemon/Procmon to when setting your preferences to see if that file is being accessed correctly.

Cheers,
Danny

Hi Danny,
Thanks for the sugesstion. This app is not worth to spend that much time. I willl have to look in to it when I get time.

Hi Danny,Ram & All,
I have downloaded QuickTimePlayer 7.6.2 from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ and started sequencing and this blog assited me partially.Auto updates for this appl,is present in Edit,Prefernces,QuickTimePrefernces,Update.Need to uncheck disable Auto Updates option. The files responsilbe for this task are QuickTime.QTP(%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime) and com.apple.quicktime(%allusersprofile%\Application data\Apple Computer\QuickTime).When i remove CSIDL_APPDATA from Exclusion items, sequencer is able to capture but when i launch the shortcut in client machine,Auto updates is giving with check in Edit, preferences. So in local client machine i have created the folder structure in Allusersprofile, Userprofile and copied the respective files. But still in vain :-(.......
Could you please help me in disabling Auto updates in sequenced applicaiton.

Many thanks in advance,
Siri G
