I am tracking tickets from time opened to client contacted to time ticket closed.

What I would like to do and can't figure out if this is possible is in a workflow process where there could be 5 tickets- which until the previous ticket closes the next one doesn't open 
Track the time the ticket is opened to the time it is approved.
Track the time the ticket is approved to the time the 1st workflow process ticket closes
Track the time the 1st workflow process ticket closes to the time the 2nd workflow process ticket closes  etc. 

We have a serious bottle neck in our purchasing workflow and upper management wants numbers and turn around times to see where exactly that bottleneck is at.

Is this possible or is this just too complicated and ugly to do?
