Windows Media Player 10 to 11

Had to figure this one out on my own so I had to post.

We deployed WMP10 using the microsoft enterprise deployment tool. When WMP11 came out with no msi I figured no problem. Ran the EDP tool on 11 and assign through group policy (All software must be distributed this way)
I have been trying since early december to figure out why the computers just reinstall WMP10 and how to fix it.
Short story is modify the msi (I use wininstall) On the general settings generate a new product code and package code.
I knew the product code was the same all along and that this was the issue, but kept trying to go at it from the other direction and prevent the computer from going back to the original packag by deleting references to it in the registry. Also was thinking that this code meant something to the program but apparently not.

Hope this helps others out there. I am new posting here but have gotten lots of really good info from this site.
