Visio 2003 admin install

I can't seem to get the package install using Radia. I created the package using the admin install command and used radia to depoly it on WinXP. I also added verbose.log to see the error message, but there is no specific error.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is a native msi from the vendor so no packaging on this one. Just create a transform file and deploy it.

But remember that installing MS 2003 products trough the MSI file, will disable the LIS (Local Installation Source) Abillity.. U can try using the Setup.exe fil locatet on the Visio 2003 CD-ROM, there are some parameters whitch can be pharsed from the setup.ini file.

Have you checked the application event log on one of the target workstations for any errors?

download the office2003 reskit from MSFT.
Run the custom installation wizard.
Within that you can specify the local installation source, plug in your license information, specify which shortcuts to install, where to install them, etc.
AFAIK this is the ONLY supported way to alter the Microsoft MSI with a transform.

But then again.. LIS wont work... If the MSI is distributed from the Administrative installation (network share) Visio wont be able to repair, even with the LIS fuctionality enabled in the MST. This because it was installed from the network share, so i trys to contact the "mother" MSI file, and will fail the repair.

Back to the problem. I dont have any experience with Radia, have you cheked their support line/forum to see if they have a problem distributing Visio 2003? Would sound odd, but ya never know ;)

as long as the network share is read access, repair should not fail.

Hehe.. The LIS install will ofause work if the network share is accessable, but this more or less disables the funktionality of LIS on Labtops (whitch is not on the network) or desktops (when the server is down). But trough the setup.exe this problem wont be an issue.

Now you've got me wondering. I may do some experimentation with this. I was under the impression that the LIS checkbox using the reskit would cache locally, but maybe not.

Yup you're right, if installed from the network self healing will fail if off the network. I wonder what in the world the ORK means by "local" then? ......

I was rather supprised myslef when I discovered this. The only benefit u get from LIS (when istalled from the MSI/MST) is saving some trafick on your network because it uses the LIS when the healing process have been issued from the "mother" MSI.

Visio is like Microsoft Office 2003. You will get an error deploying via Radia.....HTTP problem. Open a ticket with HP and they will have a MST that will correct the problem.
