transforms and patches

Hi,

I got a requirement where we have to apply a patch on a vendor MSi which was earlier installed along with a transform.
I have created patches for MSI..but never for MSI's which are installed with transform. Is it possbile to create and apply patch in this scenario?

Any help and guidelines would be really helpful.

Ahmed,

I'd forget about the transform first time round. Just create an AIP for the MSI and apply the patch to it. This will give you an updated MSI with all the patch's changes incorporated into it.

You can then make a new transform on top of this MSI, and you should be able to install this over the old version.

I think it would not create a whole lot of issues. You can create a patch for a transformed MSI. The best way to find out this is test and i suppose you will also get a whole lot of expertise here, if you need any.

Transforms are deltas on an MSI. Patches effectively change an MSI's content, which a transform does not. Patch away...

And next time, use an AIP :-)
