Symantec to Acquire Altiris

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Jan. 29, 2007 – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Altiris, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATRS), a leading provider of IT management software that enables businesses to easily manage and service network-based endpoints – from mobile devices, laptops, and desktops to servers and storage assets.

Too bad...Symantec is where good programs go to die. Authough, maybe they will ditch LiveState, and keep Altiris just as it is...

I am at an Altiris User Group meeting right now. No real details, but they did say that they would be retaining all (or most) senior management to operate Altiris as a separate business unit within Symantec. Looking at about June before the deal goes is expected to go through.
