Suggestions on installation source management

We previously were using SCCM 2007 for software deployment.  We had some MSI deployments and some setup.exe deployments.  We used installation source management for all of the MSI deployments but deployments using custom scripts and setup.exe installers couldn't be done this way.  This is why we ran most deployments from the DP so the install source would always point to a DP in the client's registry.

This worked great but now we are forced to rename DPs.  This means the installation source of most clients will be broken.  Rather than script out a registry change to all clients I'd like to see if anyone else has been in this position and if there's a better way to do this.
