Recycle or Retire Computers

How are people handling recycled or retired computers in Kbox? If I delete them out of MIA will that then delete them from Assets?

I have a field in Assets that identifies these machines as being active or recycled but need to know the best way to delete them from MIA and not lose any history of the asset or the ticket history.

Computer Assets are automatically associated with Inventory items. This is the only Asset that functions in this manner. If you want historical record, just create another asset type with the same fields and write a ticket rule to duplicate the data (create and update assets in that type) from Computer assets.

scarpent,

Removing the machine from inventory does nothing to that record in assets.

The computer information is automagically added but not removed.

Thank you this gives me my answer.

I created a field in Assets that says Active, In Inventory (storage) recycled.

I also have Recycled created in Assets to move all of our recycled computers to so we don't lose the history and we know that this has truly been recycled.

Can I or how could I create a rule to run once a month to move anything marked recycled into the Recycled Asset Group?

That's not entirely true. A computer Asset record displays the Asset History information from the computer Inventory record and when the machine is removed from Inventory all the Asset History goes away too. As mentioned earlier by airwolf, other steps are necessary if you want the history preserved in the asset record.

I think tha tis getting me is when I remove a computer from the invetory it re-opens all tickets that were created from a user that was on that machine. This is a nagging issue but one that I am sure is a fix just have to have thte time to find it.

If this is true, then you need to modify the rule that re-opens your tickets. I know that each ticket related to an inventory item is stamped with a description when the inventory item is removed, but it isn't "re-opened" automatically unless you have a ticket rule (system or custom) doing so.

Richb,

I think we're getting our terminology confused.

Asset history (all changes made to hardware / software) is saved when a machine is removed.

The actual detail information (installed printers, hardware info, etc) is no longer available when the machine is deleted.

You're right and I had it backwards. Asset History is all that remains and details are gone. The point is there appears to be a lot of information when looking at a computer asset record if there is an associated computer inventory record. When the computer inventory record is deleted as MIA or manually then there's a lot of information missing in the leftover asset record.

I tried to create a report that will put everything into a csv file so I can import the detail into assets but I don't see where I can get all the software titles to show nor the ticket histor
