Problems upgrade from old version to New version

Hi All,

here is my requirment.

1. I have to upgrade one application version 1.x to 2.x. In normal conditions i will include upgrade code in 2.x MSI and do the upgradation from 1.x to 2.x. But here the vendor provided both the versions having the same product code and upgrade code.

Given the situation how can i proceed with Upgradation to 2.x

2. Also i have to take the backup of the aaa, bbb files from c:\windows\system32 folder if the files are available in that location before the upgradation takes place.

can some one please help me to solve this.

Thanks,
Ramu

Write a script that takes a backup of the files, before removing 1.x and finally installs 2.x (with all the appropriate error handling and reporting of course)

Take the help of Wise Script and perform the manual uninstallation, check the return code of Uninstallation.. if successfull.....proceed with 2.x installation
Even you can take the backup of files

Thanks for your suggestion.

Is it possible to execute the script with in 2.x MSI before uninstalling the 1.x.

I believe i can do this using the wise script by taking the backup of files and also uninstall of 1.x manually.

I would like to do this in 2.x if possible.

Thanks,
Ramu
