One MSI, One file, two possible paths

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone here may be able to help me you.

Here's a quick rundown of what I need to do: I need to build 1 msi file which contains 1 file. This file can be copied in 1 or 2 folders, depending if these files exist.

What I was hoping is to use a Custom Action with "IF" Action. Can I check if Folder A exists, then copy file to that path. Check if Folder B exist, copy the same file again? If so, how?

Thanks guys!!!

Fau

Off the top of my head, I'd say that the simplest route is to create a property to contain the located folder name. Then create an AppSearch that populates the property. Use a default if no folder at all is found.

Thanks for your quick reply, much appreciated.

I'm currently trying it out, without success on the first try. I tried RTFM'ing the manual, but as you would guess, a precise example isn't listed.

Could I ask you to be more precise/detailed on your explanation please?

Thanks again for your time!

You can do this in Wisescript.
Compile an exe and add the exe as a CA in the msi.

@Dean, no disrespect to the OP but he's having problems creating a property and you're suggesting he uses WiseScript?!? LOL...

@Stephane, what are you using tio create packages, Wise or InstallShield?

Hello again!

I'm using Wise Package Studio 7.2. Oh, I know how to create the property. But thing's I'm not sure: does it have to be blank? Or filled with the path I'm testing for? The part I'm not sure of is when you speak of AppSearch. I haven't used that before, so that's the sketchy part!

Thanks again, like I said, the help is appreciated.

Hey guys, me again!

Ok, I think I've got the AppSearch part covered thanks to a video I found here: www.appdeploy.com/video/appsearch-wps.asp. Thanks to whoever made that video, it's pretty much spot on for what I need to do!!!

Now, all I need to do is to copy my file once my condition is met. I'll try fooling around with it before bugging you guys!

Thanks again for all the help, I'll get back in touch if need be!

Stephane
