MI for microsoft service pack (msp) on manually installed software (no msi)
WOW it seems like it should be simple
I have just started deploying sofware via MIs. My tests for Office 2010 worked.
I have Office 3002 users who access office 2007/2010 docx/xlsx with an old version of "compatability pack for Office 2007" This software was all installed manually I have no *.msi
I have downloaded the "compatability pack for Office 2007 service pack 3" I have the compatibilitypacksp3-kb2526297-fullfile-en-us.exe
From that, I have also extracted the *.msp = O12Convsp3-en-us.msp
It looks to me like i can't run msiexe /p without the appropriate *.msi. I tried without an *.msi and it didn't work.
Compatability pack for Office 2007 service packs are software and I thought I'd download the software installers and apply them via patching. No luck the download errored (sp?) out.
I believe in my heart I can use my manually downloaded *.exe or *.msp. Please tell me how. (Oh dear sounds like I am going to cry.... I gotta get a life)

p.s. Created a ticked at kace support with this same message.

Rae..
Even if "compatibility package for office 2007" msi is installed manually, you should be able to find the Product code on the system you are checking to deploy[8|]
Under uninstall strings .. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\%PCODE%"
This SP3 patch could only be applied if the compatibility package is installed at first.
