Hi,

I have been tasked with creating a silent installation package for Snap Survey's 9 Professional. The isntaller executable has been created by Installsheild so i was hoping it would be simply a case of creating a setup.iss answer file and then running the executable with the -s switch, however this has not worked. I created a setup.iss file by using the -r switch on the setup.exe and ran through the install. After i had finished i then moved this setup.iss file into the folder containing the setup.exe and tested a silent install on a test machine. I had task manager open and the setup.exe appeared for a few seconds before disapearing again, and nothing was isntalled. On checking the setup.log it contained the following...

[InstallShield Silent]
Version=v7.00
File=Log File
[ResponseResult]
ResultCode=-3

Now i know that result code 3 indicates that something is not correct in the setup.iss, but i can't see how this can be as i went through the process of creating a new setup.iss file from scratch which should contain all the correct answers for each dialog box etc??

Below is the contents of the setup.iss file, Can anyone see anything that might be causing it to fail?

[InstallShield Silent]
Version=v7.00
File=Response File

Have you tried running from a mapped drive, or local drive on the machine? The log seems to show you're running from a UNC path:
szDir=\\share\shared\SNAPSURVEYS

I've seen some weirdness with UNCs, although the -SMS switch should prevent it from closing the network connection.

You could try running with the switch to create a verbose log - just in case it gives a clearer indication of the error:

http://itninja.com/blog/view/installshield-setup-silent-installation-switches

Failing that recreate the answer file and compare to your existing one, you could always specify the file on the command line with -f1 switch, just to be sure.

Hope this helps,

Dunnpy

** First time post **

has anyone found a solution to this?

I've come across the same issue, the setup.iss file is the same as the above poster. Also tried extracting the MSI during the install, but still not working.

My next option is to create a Wise MSI package, but I'd rather use this as a last resort!

*fingers crossed for a nice easy solution*
