I have deployed Windows 2008 R2 Active Directory in my environment, along with KACE 1100 version 5.4.76847. Every day users need to enter their Active Directory password, which they used to log into Windows, to log into the Service Desk portal. When the portal is not accessed for sometime or the user closes the browser, he is again prompted to enter the A/D password. I understand K1100 is built on FreeBSD and hence doesn't have tight integration with Active Directory like other Windows server based applications. But can't the browser be set to "remember" the user password and not keep prompting for it daily and several times a day?

  • Yes, I read this article about integrating FreeBSD with Active Directory for Single Sign-on. What I am asking for is if there is an ability to set the browser to remember the login ID and password used for K1100 and hence A/D, that will prevent users from putting them in.
    • Chrome will allow them to save it, but they'll still have to click login. I'm sure other browsers have the same capability, just haven't tested it.
  • When 5.5 is released later this year, it is supposed to include single sign-on.

Short answer is I dont think you can control that as it is dependant on the user wanting to save the password. We have been waiting 6 years for single sign on and hopefully 5.5 or 6.0 will bring that this year.

You can also adjust the Session Timeout period to at least last the workday (under K1000 Settings > General Settings). Won't help if they close the browser though. For that you should be able to set any browser to remember the password for the kbox address.
