How to remove extra Asset sub types?

Under my device asset type I now have 2 subtypes. Laser Printer: Color & Laser Printer: Monochrome
Now these might be old subtypes that I put in years ago. I do not remember but they are getting in the way and do not belong under the device asset type.

When I try to delete them I get the following "... is a built-in subtype and cannot be deleted."

But this is a problem when trying to filter because my techs have to go the extra step to select all. If they are in a hurry and just click on devices. The window closes and does nothing.

  • Can you be more specific on what filter you are talking about? - AbhayR 5 years ago

All i am trying to do is remove the 2 subtypes under the device type but I get a notice that they are default. - DLCurtis 5 years ago

I have had the opportunity to discuss exactly this issue with both the SMA Product Lead and the Asset Management sub lead and I am sorry to say that the Asset sub lead really did not grasp what the issue was, it was clearly a case of KACE wanting to put functionality into the product, ramming it in in a poorly thought out way, without thought to those of us that actually want to use the product. Similarly the inability to drop down and only show devices in the asset area, not all asset subtypes is another area of annoyance.

I was supposed to have a follow up call to continue our discussion, but I guess I gave him such a "beating" that I have not heard anything back now for over three months. He is to scared to either re-engage or maybe he finds it hard to admit he is wrong and has messed up.

The only way to bring about this change, to clean up all the asset area nonsense will be to contact Ken G directly at Quest.

That website is monitored by KACE's R&D Team, unfortunately it only has 4 votes, but the more votes it gets, the more visibility (noise) will cause. - Channeler 5 years ago
    • I gave up 3 votes on that one. LOL We will see if that goes anywhere. But yes I did up vote that one. - DLCurtis 5 years ago

Unfortunately that is not possible... they're built-in into the KACE Code, I'm not sure but I believe the Database relies on them to work properly.

  • So any chance is this due to the SNMP setup? Could I somehow disable that part and then be able to? This just seems like a very bad "built in" feature. - DLCurtis 5 years ago
    • They cannot be deleted as they are built in. What issue you are having with filters and where? - AbhayR 5 years ago
      • When trying to use the filter in the Asset Management area. You have to go 3 levels deep to make your selection stick.
If you just click on say the 2nd level. You don't get all devices. The menu just goes away. - DLCurtis 5 years ago
  • Yeah that is an inconvenience. But there is an arrow to indicate that it has sub-levels - AbhayR 5 years ago
    • Ya, not a huge deal but if i could remove it would but as I cannot. I will just add it to training.

Thanks for the quick replys - DLCurtis 5 years ago
