How do you update the Registry after a Software Hotfix?

Hello All,

I am brand new to using the K1000, but my company has been using it for a while. However we have a recurring issue. When we deploy software that has a version number of 5.0.4 for example we have no issues with the install or deployment to clients. When we apply a Hotfix to this software the base level remains the same 5.0.4 but it will actually be Hotfix 2. The Kbox will continue to try install the 5.0.4.2 Hotfix until the job is canclled. I am trying to understand why this keeps happening. I think the issue is in the registry, but I am unsure how to make a registry edit to be included will the Hotfix install, or if the registry is the actual culprit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Typically the K1000 uses an entry in the uninstall portion of the registry for software identification: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

If the entry there is not updated, then the K1000 would not know the difference between two software versions.  In that case, you would use a custom inventory rule to tell them apart.  Some detail is here: http://documents.software.dell.com/DOC285576
