Does anyone have experince in using Deepfreeze command DFC password /WU in conjunction with Kace detect and deploy?

Would like to know if anyone has build a script for Deep Freeze using the command DFC password /WU which put the computer in Window update mode then have Kace detect and deploy at same time.   What would be the negative effects in doing this?

First of all, the Command line option must be enabled in your Deepfreeze client in order to use DFC.exe.  I don`t use Kace but do use SCCM and i`ve made a task sequence to first "unfreeze`the PC and then run the the software upgrades etc to finally "freeze" the PC again.  I have not yet had time to setup or test Windows updates but from a quick test i did a few months back from the Deepfreeze console, seems like launching the windows updates only installed the critical updates.

  • Are your thaw/freeze TS straight foward command line TS? - mz6569 9 years ago
    • i made a "program" in SCCM with the command line like so "DeepFreeze\DFC.exe "password without quotes here" /FREEZENEXTBOOT" and the to unfreeze the option would be \THAWNEXTBOOT - KevinViolette 9 years ago

There have been some other posts speaking to using DeepFreeze with KACE, although I don't know if any mention the /wu command. Here's a good place to start:

In my environment I found it best to setup a maintenance window on my frozen machines that aligns with my patching schedule. I found that having Deep Freeze control its own freeze/thaw state more reliable than changing it with scripts from the KBox.

  • I agree, we have been using the core since it was released and what a major hassle savings. No need to reinvent the wheel. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • Thank you very much for the replies just a little bit confused. So let me get this right, you all aren't using Kace with computer that have deepfreeze? Just use the Core from Faronics. Is this right? - aquiles 11 years ago
    • I am using computers with KACE and Deep Freeze Enterprise. We don't have many with Deep Freeze but there are a few. - chucksteel 11 years ago
    • I use SCCM and have about 100 PC`s on DeepFreeze. I dont`use the Core Console but rather the Deep Freeze Enterprise Console. For lack of time for testing reasons, i curently do windows updates once or twice per year on my computer labs. - KevinViolette 11 years ago
