Hi there,

We are currently looking at introducing some form of software asset tracking (for license management).

SNOW software asset management is being touted as the way to go but from what I've read it only rationalises the data from config manager, plus provides a console where you can remove apps without having access to AD or SCCM.

Has anyone had experience of using SNOW, is there a benefit that I'm missing?

Yes, the company I work for uses SNOW, so I use SNOW.

The deal higher management made here is that some external company handels the data.
Good thing is that they must take care of assetmanagement.
A problem I run in to already many times is no direct access to the database.

Example:
I need to know how many Lync installations, version and last SNOW agent update.
This is not visible in the web interface I have, I need to request this!!

Also I can not have any automatic job set, like:
IF blacklisted app detect THEN uninstall  :-(

* So if you can, try to have a SNOW repository/server on site.
* Also make sure you have the latest version because the agent can cause problem on a terminal server (High CPU usage) and/or backups (it read some entries double).

And as a benefit to CM2012 asset management, I am not sure if there really is...besides the outsourcing of licensing deals...
