Best way to distribute apps
We currently are in the process of upgrading our network to Active Directory. We currently use NDS. Currently, we do not use any type of application packaging and distribution. There are ~500 users on our network, and we are looking for a way to package and distribute applications (preferably a way that will work well with A.D.) Can anyone recommend a software package that will allow us to easily (and cost-effectively) manage our app-installs for end users? What different software apps are there (i've heard of Marimba, SMS, Tivoli, but not sure what the features of them are).
Thanks,
Andrew

Well a couple things you will need...
Fazam (if you stay under 500 users it is free, just do a search on the Microsoft site, it was in the win2k resource kit) It is used for Group Policy management and it also has built in version control, very good for deploying applications via group policy although its uses might be less now with the release of the Group Policy Management console SP1.
WinInstall LE (great for repackaging legacy installs...and free, it is on the win2k CD)
Wise Install Tailor (used for making Transform files for vendor supplied MSIs, and is now free)
I would start with these and if you find that they do not meet your needs then look at purchasing something.
