Asset Inventory

Hello everyone,

I am having an issue with Kace.  I am unsure how to pre-populate assets within kace, or have the Assets that are created actually have pertinent data from the linked machine.  Currently if we boot up a machine with the agent installed it creates an Asset with the Machine Name as  the only data.  I would like to link Machine.Bios_Serial_number with the Asset Serial, along with a bunch of other fields automatically populated.  I have searched around and haven't found a clear answer on how to accomplish this.  I could populate all of this information if I had write access to the database(this would be ideal but I understand that its unsupported).  Does anyone have any information on how to accomplish this?

Ok if you want to copy multiple fields from Inventory to Asset you will need to take a look at creating a ticket rule to do that on a schedule, and that's a whole other conversation!!

If you want to synchronise your serial number that is a touch easier...

I would suggest that first you go to your Asset Type of Device and add in a text field called Serial No (or similar) then save the Device asset type

Next go back into the Device Asset Type and set the link fields between Inventory and Asset

So set your Mapped Inventory Field to Serial Number and your Matching Asset field to your new Serial No. field

KACE should now populate the Serial No. Field in your Assets with the serial numbers from inventory.

Any new devices that get agents and create a fresh inventory record will create a new Asset, the name of the Asset defaults to the Machine name, but the Serial No. Field will be populated from inventory and used as the link between Inventory and Asset

Comments:
  • When setting the Mapped inventory field, is this only for new machines that check in to kace?

Also is it possible to add multiple mapped fields? - sbenson 5 years ago
    • It will update existing as well, as they check in. No it is not possible to map across other fields you will need to achieve a ticket rule To achieve that - Hobbsy 5 years ago

Our hardware technicians import assets when they are received. They populate a spreadsheet with serial number, PO number, model and a few other fields. This is then imported using Asset Management, Import Assets.

I prefer to set the Mapped Inventory Field to BIOS Serial Number and the Matching Asset Field to Name. When machines are then inventoried KACE automatically matches the inventoried device with the asset which was imported. If the asset wasn't imported first, it is created and then it gets updated when the techs import their spreadsheet.
