Anybody with more than 5 Managed Installs with 5.3?

I am currently working with support on this issue, but is anyone using the 5.3 server/agent and deploying more than 5 managed installs?

I am using the breadcrumb method to stamp a file on the drive with my 2000, run a custom inventory, and assigning MI's to the resultant label. If 6 MI's get assigned to a machine KDEPLOY.EXE dies and NOTHING installs.

I had similar issues with 5.1, but it would start to install maybe 3 of them, kbot would fail, then on next check in it would continue.

Anyone?

Depending on labels, I've had new PCs with 7 MIs. They appear to be ok.

Thanks for responding. I, first, doubted my MI's that were using RunAs (through AutoIT), or some other error on my part, but even pushing the MI's in an order that starts with a simple MSI deployment, it still fails immediately upon initiation of the first MI launch. Strange.

What does the kdeploy log say? One "feature" of 5.3 (I'm not sure if the latest build fixed it, I'm one behind) that I found was that if you zip MIs using compressed folders, it will fail right away. If you zip them with 7-zip, they are fine.

That is interesting. As you may have guessed, all of mine are compressed folders.

They ALL work, just not in a greater number than 5 in the list of "To Install".

I will re-zip them, though just to be sure. Thanks for the tip.

We have new computers with over 5 MIs. Server v5.3.45497 and Agent 5.3.47173. They are completing eventually. When run with the command line runkbot 6 0 there are many KDeploy errors but they all seem related to the alert messages that aren't displaying properly.

To answer your question, though :)

I am getting a lot of these in the kdeploy.log"

[Wed Oct 12 14:12:35 2011] KDeploy KUserAlert returned=2: (183) Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

[Wed Oct 12 14:26:01 2011] KLaunch Error: CreateProcess Failed: (2) The system cannot find the file specified.

[Wed Oct 12 14:26:01 2011] KLaunch Local command failed: (2) The system cannot find the file specified.

I'm getting similar errors but in my case they seem to only be cosmetic because it's trying to create an alert dialog when there is already an alert showing. It seems the dialogs are doing their own thing and not obeying the prescribed Snooze, Pre-install or Post-install messages, yet the software gets installed fine. We get a generic "Updating Applications' alert dialog followed by several empty lines stating "Executing Command: (blank)"

EDIT!!!!!! STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM!!!
It was working fine last night ... this morning, still erroring out with KDEPLOY errors. My solution below DOES NOT fix the issue

UPDATE:

In our case, the problem had to do with the company name settings in the KACE Agent configuration. We had our company name with a , and a .

Once we removed the spaces, commas, and periods, it seems to work. Strange problem, but it looks like a string translation problem when the client communicates back. Don't ask me why it works with only 5 MI's.

No spaces or anything in my company name (ASD20) but still get those KDeploy and KUSerAlert errors with wrong alert dialogs displayed. I'll put in a ticket with KACE...

I have 11.

all 11 fail.

I've tested 1 by 1 and they all deploy. Quite a sad situation for us, since you know, we want to deploy workstations :(

here is my kdeploy

I've just run a test and if I take away the targetting of all of my MIs and then target 5 installs instead of the 11 I have, then the deployments begin pretty much as soon as I push 'force inventory'.

So anymore than 5 and you appear to be out of luck.

Update on this problem we seem to share ... turn off the Snooze option and the final pop up for install completion. This (today ... it's day to day for me) seems to have resolved my issue.

Remove it from 6 of the 11 you install, and see if that works.
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
