Adobe Reader 9 does not start from other Application
Hello Board,
I packaged Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 with the Customization Wizard 9 of Adobe. Everything seemed working fine. I tested on several machines and everything was OK. But after deploying the Software I have to users, which can open PDFs from the Windows Browser, Internet Explorer but not from other Applications.
In the Event Viewer under System this Event is logged:
Unable to start a DCOM Server: {98D9A6F1-4696-4B5E-A2E8-36B3F9C1E12C}. The error:
"The system cannot find the path specified. "
Happened while starting this command:
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32Info.exe" /PDFShell -Embedding
Adobe Acrobat does not start, the curious is, that it fails only on a special machine type.
Has anyone seen this?
Best Regards,
Klaus.

- Pop a copy of ProcMon on to your USB stick (where it should already be, of course)
- Go to one of the failing machines
- Start ProcMon
- Filter out processes you're not interested in e.g. SVCHOST.EXE, EXPLORER.EXE and so on
- Start the app which fails
- Stop ProcMon when the error message box appears
ProcMon's output will show you either 'PATH NOT FOUND', 'NAME NOT FOUND' or 'ACCESS DENIED' for a file or registry entry. That will provide the start point for your investigation.
