As you realise (since you're using a transform) you don't intefere with a vendor's MSI so no, you don't want to add it to the MSI. Any transform will always use an external CAB if files are added to the installation, irrespective of what settings you use in the authoring tool's UI. IIRC, if you try to force the use of an internal CAB by directly editing the Media table, you will get a media error at install time.

So, to sum up, for transforms, you have to include the CAB with the MSI/MST.

Hi Mohammed,
could you please explain exactly, what you did to generate the MST.
Which Tool you use etc.
And please turn on logging and search for error in the logfile.

Seems pretty clear to me :) Keep the external CAB with the MSI and MST in the distribution folder. IIRC, SMS starts an MSIExec instance anyway so, if the MST refers to an external CAB, it will retrieve that CAB from wherever the MST is stored.

Hi Ian,
if the MST refers to an external CAB, it will retrieve that CAB from wherever the MST is stored.
Don't think that it is working like this. An external CAB file MUST reside in the same folder (SourceDir) as the MSI file.
There is no possibility to set a path for a CAB file in the Media table.
If an MST doesn't reside in the MSI's folder, you need to specifiy a full path to use it.

sunny4u,

Just to make you aware - Adobe have a tool to assist in the customisation of the installation and MST creation.

It's availabe here, as listed in the Package Knowledge Base on this site.

Thanks,

Dunnpy
