AD reporting tool

Hi guys..!
I don't know if i'm posting in the right subforum, but here goes.. We have been using SMS 2003 for some time now, however, we continue to run into issues that we cannot resolve. And since these issues seems to be ongoing, we're currently looking for alternatives..
Therefore, we have been testing a bit with software deployment via AD/GPO, and the results with that have been very promising compared to SMS. Sure, it also has it's specific issues, but in the area of support, it's a LOT easier to set up compared to sms and to "manage"..

However, software deployment (mainly MSI's) via AD has some minor drawbacks compared to SMS as well.. One of those is reporting. SMS has nice reportings etc, sure, they're not always accurate, but they CAN help sometimes in troubleshooting and getting an overview of i.e. percentage of succesfull deployments.

Ok, now for the question: Is there a tool out there (i do not believe Microsoft has a specific tool) to create reports of the deployment of software using AD/GPO? Maybe a third party tool or whatever? Off course, i can google for it and i'll probably find dozens of suppiers of programs like that, but what i'm really interested in is experiences with programs from within the community.. [:)] [:D] Thanks..!

Hi Neo,
maybe, you want to get a look at specops deploy:
http://www.specopssoft.com/products/specopsdeploy/

It expands GPO deployment with reporting, adds the ability to deploy exe based setups and some more interesting features.
They even have a trial version.

You can also use the Remote System Query Utility from Install Solutions. You can actually import a list of systems from AD and query them for just about any information remotely. You can simply check to see if the version of the file is correct and use that for reporting. It is also very fast.

Go here for more info on it http://www.InstallSolutions.net/RSQOverview.aspx.
