Dell BIOS Updates on KACE K1000

Hello, is it possible to update the BIOS on Dell Latitude, Precision and Optiplex computers using KACE K1000?

I can see it used to be possible via posts from 2012 on here, however sine then KACE has been sold by Dell to Quest, and UEFI has become more prominent.

If it is possible, what is the most effective way to do this. The "Dell Updates" component of our K1000 appliance does not seem to install any Dell updates, and I have had to do them manually so far. I don't feel like manually flashing 180 BIOS' manually by hand...

Yes you can, even with password on the bios, follow the admin guide https://support.quest.com/technical-documents/kace-sma/8.0/administrator-guide/178#TOPIC-829422 & https://support.quest.com/kb/111277/deploying-a-current-model-dell-bios-update-when-there-is-a-bios-password
It's the same procedure as OS & software updates.

  • Thanks @gwir. I was able to get a lot of the BIOS updates deployed through the method you provided. In the end there were a (reasonably sized...) handful of PC's which it didn't work on though, so I just went and patched them manually with a flash drive as it was going to be quicker than troubleshooting the cause. - uzenethe 6 years ago
