Note
This program is used at many elementary and secondary schools around the country. I was able to re-package this app into an .msi file so it can be pushed out silently but there a couple of tricks to avoid having to enter data path location or even accidentally overwriting the data path.

After, I repackaged the app using Wise Package Studio 5.6, I ran the setup using the new .msi file. After running the installer and clicking on the management icon to launch the app, the user is presented with a setup screen. Most end users at schools won't have a clue as to where their database is located so I was able to find the files where this information is stored by running an second snapshot during the setup screens. I found out that the following files are created or modified: AccReadr.INI, alsBIGC.dat, alsBIGC.fpt and ALSPREFS.INI which all go into c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\renaissance learning\. The one other file that is modified is ARM.LOG which goes into c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\renaissance learning\als_temp\.

After saving these files to the .msi package, you're set to go with a completely silent install that won't prompt users for the data path when they open the management portion of the program.

Note

The files mentioned above are specific to the installation (Site).  If you have multiple sites that save data in different locations and/or have different license codes you need to create one package for each installation.  I discovered this when a user that visited multiple sites connected AR from one site to the data at another and caused many computers at both sites to go down after the installation was remapped to the initial site.  The fix involved deleting these 4 files from every computer on the site (and possibly the data location also...i can't remember) then pointing the software to the correct location/licensed data.

We have since gone to the hosted AR and never looked back.
