Note
The answer file method described here works for both older 2.5.9 and newer 2.6 versions.

You have to be careful during the recording of the reference installation, though. In my case, I do not want the privacy service. I selected a custom installation and unchecked that module: THIS DOES NOT WORK! Instead, you need to select a standard installation and then answer "no" when asked if you want to activate the privacy service...

This may seem trivial, but it took me a while to understand why it did not work! I hope this saves you the frustration I had to go through...

This is an InstallShield package containing an .msi file. You first need to create an .iss response file with the following command:

setup-beid-runtime-2.6.exe /r /f1"<path>\setup.iss"

The selections and choices you make during installation will be recorded into the file specified with the /f1 parameter, which should be named setup.iss to be taken into account automatically. When asked, select not to start the privacy service automatically, as this may conflict with the Windows firewall. Command-line for quiet installation:

setup-beid-runtime-2.6.exe /s /f2"%TEMP%\setup-beid-runtime-2.6.log"

It is possible to install the runtime without the record function in installshield.

setup-beid-runtime-2.6.exe /L1033 /S /v/qn

This command installs the application however there is no trace of it in the Add/remove software and therefore it can not be uninstalled unattended.

The method of creating an answer file beforehand and using it for installing silently still works with newer version 3.5 build 3909, but you now have to extract the package first.

* Extract the package contents:
setup-beid-runtime-3.5-3909_tcm146-26845.exe /extract_all:"<path>"

* Record model installation into setup.iss:
setup.exe /r /f1"<path>\setup.iss"

* Install silently with log file:
setup.exe /s /f2"%TEMP%\setup-beid-runtime-3.5-3909_tcm146-26845.log"

Note
The newer 3.5.3909 version is slightly different from older versions. You need to extract the package contents before you can use the regular silent switches correctly.

The current package is made with InstallShield but they are working on a new MSI installer. You can obtain a copy by writing to their helpdesk at this address: "servicedesk@fedict.be" (as described on the following page: http://eid.belgium.be/fr/Contact/).
