Remember to leave the "Finish" splash screen if you choose to do silent installations with "single sign-on" otherwise it wouldn't reboot as it must.

To configure the Citrix 8.1 Client, there is a config.xml file (on the server) in which the settings for the Citrix Program Neighborhood agent can be set.

This file resides on the server and the workstation pna client points to this file on the server. In the file on the server you can enable or disable a check box or add entry to a text box based on your configuration reqs for the pn agent.

Eg. <SystemTrayMenuDisplay>
<Enabled forcedefault="false" modifiable="true">true</Enabled>
</SystemTrayMenuDisplay>

true = enable (check) the checkbox for "Show in System Tray" option in the pna configuration settings on the Application Display tab.

Similarly other options can be set.

First of all, I got stuck with the setup.exe version, even /r and /s wouldn't solve the uninstallation problems.
The solution was called Ica32Pkg.msi which I downloaded from the Citrix server.

To let it run in silent mode I used Installshield Tuner 5.5 to build a MST file.

All changes have been made in the Dialogues and Setup Properties sections.

The following entries in the Setup Properties have to be changed:

- Set "Accept" to yes
- Set "EnableSSonDefault..." to yes
- Set "Clientname valid" to yes (to let the client log in using the user's credentials and the client's name)
- Set "Server location" to your server

Then you select the features you want to install and disable the others.

This works for me.

Some of this is courtsey of a thread I found on the Citrix Support Forums by Guy Marcucci. It is by far the easiest way I've found to preconfigure and silentlly run a citrix install

1) Download the 8.1 client and put on root of C (or anywhere you wish).
2) At prompt type C:\msiexec -a ica32pkg.msi. This will start the client packager setup.
3) Save it to a place of your choice and select uncompressed.
4) Select which clients you wish. In my case I only wanted the Program Neighborhood so I disabled the other two.
5) On the next few prompts select what you need for your situation. On the user dialog boxes I removed all dialogs for a silent install. The package is now created at the location you selected.
6) I then installed the client on a workstation. It installs silently with no prompts. I then configured it for your farms. I did so with out actually logging in.
7) Under your user profile there is a application data folder and under that a ICA Client folder. I copied the pn.ini and appsrv.ini files to a temp location. These files are documented heavily on this web site as to their function. I copied the pn.ini file to pn.src and the appsrv.ini to appsrv.src. I then copied these 4 files over to the installation package I just created. Put them in the ICA Classic subfolder in the package.
8) Test the install. After installation you should see your setup already there.
9) -To run the MSI using a command line type the following;

msiexec /i \\<Deployment Server>\Citrix ICA Client\ICA32pkg.msi /qn

If you do not want the install to reboot add the following command ALLOW_REBOOT=”No”

This is an installation process quite to my liking:

Use MSIEXEC /A "ica32pkg -eng.msi" to start the Administrative instance of the installer.
After you chose all you settings and what screens should be displayed during installation the installer generates an new (and tiny) msi in c:\ica32pkg.

Just run that new msi on your client and you're done!
