Test what? To what extent? Include validation or not? Seriously, you should work out your specific requirements first before asking such a nebulous question.
When you refer to 'the msi repository server', I assume you're using Wise Package Studio and want to set up the SQL Server side of things? That process is thoroughly documented in the Help files for WPS and there are innumerable papers on Symantec's 'Connect' portal.
