Windows Live Messenger 2009 Shortcut
I am using GPO to install Windows Live Messenger 2009 and it work but i need to ad shortcut to the desktop and Quick Launch. I use one msi file and the old
Windows Messenger did ad this shortcut but not this. I did open the msi file wit Orca and did see the Shortcut Table and in the old file is this two line
DesktopShortcut DesktopFolder MsnMsgr|Windows Live Messenger MsgrCoreAdditionalLinksDesktop [MessengerDir]msnms MsblIco.Exe
QuickLaunchShortcut QuickLaunchFolder MsnMsgr|Windows Live Messenger MsgrCoreAdditionalLinksQuickLaunch [MessengerDir msnmsgr.exe MsblIco.Exe
I did import it to new msi file with Windows Live Messenger 2009 and it dosnet work. I get this error Product: Windows Live Messenger -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2709. The arguments are: MsgrCoreAdditionalLinksDesktop, ,

You cannot assume that the component names and the directory names have remained the same between the different versions. I don't know what tool you are using, but make sure the entry under Directory (and WkDir and Target) references a directory that is in the Directory table. And that the entry under component matches the component that holds the file you're making the shortcut to.
Or if you have Wise or Installshield or something similar, use the GUI to add them, not direct table edits
