Windows Installer Error 1628

I was trying to install a software on a machine running Windows XP Professional (SP2) when I got the error "1628: Failed to complete installation.". However, the same installation worked fine on another PC running the same OS (not sure about the service pack though)... Any help in debugging this error would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever you encounter these types of problems, always check the Application Event Log for further information.

Is this doesn't help, then you can use the msiexec /l switch to enable a log of the installation. You will get very detailed information from using this.

Hello nariman,

To log the installation of the MSI package, use the following syntax in a command prompt:

msiexec /I package.msi /l*v c:\logfile.txt

NB: The /l is a lowercase L
