Why isn't one of my machines checking in?

I installed KACE inventory software on one of my rail measurement computers but it will not check in.  I do know that I installed it on top of an old kbox version.  I have done this  type of install on pretty much all of these computers and they all check in.

Hi,

When that happens to me and the machine is online I normally check the amp.conf file first.

It can be found here: C:\ProgramData\Dell\KACE -- * I'm not sure if this is updated to show C:\ProgramData\Quest\Kace  *-- but we are running an older version of KACE here.

After opening that directory, open amp.conf with notepad, and see if there is anything in there. The best thing to do is to compare the amp.conf file with a machine that is checking in.

If the file is blank/showing incorrect data -- just copy and paste over the correct info from the machine that is checking in and then save the file.

After updating that, I open CMD as admin then run the following commands:

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\KACE
amptools.exe set
runkbot 4 0

and that would get the machine checking into KACE.

===========================

If the above fails then I just do a complete re-install of KACE.

You can uninstall via Command Prompt with this command:

AMPTools.exe uninstall all-kuid

^just make sure to change directories to the KACE directory.

Then you can install the agent again as normal.

Thanks!
