Whats the difference between "Alert user before run" and "Initial Message"

Anyone know what the difference between "Alert user before run" and "Initial Message" on a Managed Install is?  When I check the help file at:

http://appliancename/locale/en_US.UTF-8/doc/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/frameset.htm#href=c_AboutInstallationParameters.html

The description is exactly the same.  I would like to know if there is some nuance between the two that would come in handy in any particular situation.

  • I think the first one runs the alert before the dependencies begin downloading, the second alerts after the download but before the installer actually runs. - billyITguy 6 years ago

Imagine you have a managed install or script to install Adobe Creative Suite (10GB).

Alert user before run
This message will be displayed right when the Agent starts downloading the 10GB (the dependencies needed to execute the script or task).

Initial Message
Once you have the 10GB needed, then you will use the ZIP, EXE, MSI, etc etc.
So Initial Message happens when the Install Phase is about to start.
