Does anyone know which regkey (or other method) on the local machine the SMS agent uses towrite the content of SMS_R_System.LastLogonUserName for any given computer? (MS SMS 2003)

I don't know about SMS but you can usually find it here if the user is logged on:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer "Logon User Name".
Or here if the user is not logged on and you have policies set to the default and leave the last logged on user name in the login box:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon "DefaultUserName"
